Features of My Special Recipes

To make it easy for people with disabilities to use the app to cook, there are pictures accompany the text and there are speaker button where the users can choose to listen to what the text says.
However, the audio feature requires the installation of text-to-speech (TTS) engine. Most android devices come with TTS. If not, you can download it for free. I found that Samsung devices come with Samsung text-to-speech, which I personally does not like. On my Samsung tablet, I installed Google TTS instead.

People with disabilities often have problems with dexterity, muscle strength and muscle tone. That means they find it difficult to do peeling, cutting and chopping. It takes them longer to do these tasks so they cannot multitask (e.g. they find it difficult to cut the ingredients while the oil is heated). Therefore, we have re-arranged the steps that the preparation of the ingredients go before the cooking. To further help them to get round the dexterity problem, we also choose ingredients that are pre-prepared by supermarkets. However, this has to be balanced against the cost. We have chosen to use grated cheese, diced swede or root vegetables.
We also provide timers to help them to keep track of cooking and baking time. Sometimes they may forget the amount of ingredients for the steps so the amount of ingredients are displayed on the relevant steps.
There is a shopping list function where one can tick off the ingredients that one already has and then save a shopping list to use while shopping. The app also will recalculate the amount of ingredients if one wants to change the number of portions.
